In a shocking incident that unfolded on Tuesday morning in Manisa, Turkey, a 15‑year‑old gunman opened fire outside the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, leaving eleven students injured and two in critical condition. Police quickly apprehended the suspect, and his mother, father, and grandfather – who owned the shotgun – were also detained.
CCTV footage captured the alleged shooter walking calmly through the empty streets, checking a shotgun before fleeing the scene still clutching the weapon. The suspect, a student at the school, was later seen running away from the building with the firearm in hand. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Turkey’s justice minister Akın Gürlek confirmed the arrests and highlighted that the teenager must appear before a court prior to formal detainment, as required by Turkish law. The education ministry released a statement expressing deep sadness, especially within the academic community, and dispatched national investigators to Manisa.
This tragedy follows two prior school shootings earlier this year that sparked nationwide outrage and prompted tighter gun controls for the 2026‑2027 academic year. In April, a 14‑year‑old gunman killed nine students and a teacher in Kahramanmaras before dying at the scene.
