President Donald Trump has threatened to block sales of Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier in the United States unless the company builds its planes there.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a piggybank.”
Bombardier, headquartered in Montreal, already runs a factory in Kansas that produces special‑mission military planes and employs 3,500 American workers. About half of its 5,100–aircraft fleet is used by US customers.
The threat follows a looming US tariff of 50% on $20 bn worth of Canadian goods, part of a growing trade dispute between the two neighbours. Canadian officials are seeking clarification, while Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette has defended the company’s operations.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has labelled the US demands as unfair, and the last‑minute trading terms have strained relations. Trump’s call adds a new flashpoint to the already tense US‑Canada trade environment.
