Trump predicts the Iran war will only end after the November midterms

Former US President Donald Trump claimed that the conflict with Iran will not subside until after the November congressional elections.

In a visit to a Republican convention in Texas, he said oil prices would fall once the war is over, but also warned that Iran was trying to influence the election to weaken opposition and keep its nuclear program unchecked.

The war, now in its seventh month, has pushed oil prices to a $100 per barrel peak for the first time since July, stoking domestic pressure on Trump, whose approval ratings have slipped.

Trump also noted that further negotiations with Tehran were unlikely, adding that the war was “going to end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer.”

Political observers caution that midterm elections are historically a testing ground for a president, and a loss of the GOP majority could tighten economic uncertainty amid ongoing Middle East tensions.
