Trump Plans Camp‑David‑Style Retreat at Florida Golf Club

President Donald Trump is proposing a new presidential retreat at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, modeled after Camp David.

He says the venue would be built as a “gift” to Americans, covering construction costs and offering free membership to future presidents and visiting heads of state, while the club would provide accommodations to foreign dignitaries at no cost to the federal government.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump noted the club’s proximity to the airport – only a couple of minutes away – and called it “as safe as they could possibly get,” emphasizing security features that would outshine the rustic, heavily guarded Camp David.

The plan would mirror Trump’s pattern of re‑imagining presidential spaces: gilded accents in the Oval Office, demolition of the East Wing, new ballroom, and proposed triumphal arch in Washington.

The golf club, a 27‑hole course with a luxurious clubhouse and fine dining, is already a frequent haven for Trump's allies and supporters during his Florida weekends.

If approved, the retreat would give future presidents a private, secure setting far removed from Capitol Hill’s bustle, but critics question the creation of a quasi‑private presidential enclave on a club owned by the former president.
