Trump Says Saudi Arabia Must Recognise Israel for Nuclear Deal
In a post on Truth Social, former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States‑Saudi Arabia civilian nuclear agreement—intended for peaceful use and excluding enrichment—will be approved only if Riyadh joins the "very respected and successful Abraham Accords" and formally recognises Israel.
Trump’s remarks arrive amid criticism from nuclear experts who warn that the deal could spur future proliferation in an already unstable Arab‑Middle East region. The nuclear issue is a key pillar in the broader U.S.–Israeli strategy to counter Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
In 2020, Trump brokered the Abraham Accords, which opened diplomatic ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, and later led to normalisation agreements with Sudan and Morocco. Saudi Arabia’s participation would further cement Israel’s regional foothold.
