Trump Launches ‘Super Intelligence Force’ to Govern AI Development
President Donald Trump announced the creation of a new Super Intelligence Force (SIF) in a post on his social‑media handle, naming the director of national intelligence Jay Clayton as head of the taskforce. The move is part of a broader strategy to keep the United States at the forefront of artificial intelligence technology while establishing a coordinated federal response to its risks.
SIF will coordinate the government’s engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical‑infrastructure providers and AI companies. Members also include Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Defense undersecretary for research and engineering Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor. The taskforce will report directly to the President and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.
The initiative follows an executive order Trump signed on 29 September that rebrands artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence” to convey its advanced nature. In the same order, federal agencies were instructed to adopt the terms “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official documents.
SIF’s creation comes amid mounting pressure from AI leaders, including executives from OpenAI and Anthropic, to tighten regulation. Trump has pledged to set up a board to oversee AI safety following a “morally binding” regulatory pact signed by top tech firms.
Cyber‑security concerns and recent breaches involving ChatGPT‑produced models have heightened scrutiny of commercial AI deployments, underscoring the urgency of a coordinated oversight body.
