Texas floods claim first casualty as same deadly stretch resurfaces

In central Texas, heavy rains have turned the Guadalupe River into a "large and deadly" flood that recently killed at least one person, echoing the July 4th flash floods of 2025 that claimed over 130 lives.

The same stretch near Kerrville that swallowed Camp Mystic’s 25 campers has again seen the river surge rapidly—up to 32 feet in four hours—prompting mass evacuations and 80 rescues.

Governor Greg Abbott urged residents to flee to higher ground, stating that the "rapidly rising rivers" would continue to rise all day. The National Weather Service has issued a warning to "move to higher ground now".

Emergency officials warn that the region remains at high risk and authorities are monitoring the Guadalupe River’s rise across Uvalde, Kerr and Kendall counties.
