Marius Borg Hoiby, the 28-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson to Crown Prince Haakon, has been charged with serious offenses including multiple counts of rape and sexual assault. This development comes after a months-long investigation by police in Oslo that shook the royal family. Following his initial arrest in August, police conducted extensive interviews and analyzed a vast amount of digital evidence.
Hoiby was also arrested on separate occasions in September and November on additional rape suspicions. Though he has denied most allegations—particularly those concerning sexual violence and abuse—his lawyer, Petar Sekulic, emphasized that Hoiby is treating the charges with utmost seriousness and has cooperated with investigators.
Marius was only four years old when his mother married the crown prince in 2001. While royal duties are designated to his siblings, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, Hoiby himself does not hold any formal titles or responsibilities. The latest charges include one count of rape involving intercourse, as well as several counts of sexually offensive behavior, harassment of a police officer, and violations of restraining orders.
Previously, Marius Borg Hoiby expressed regret for incidents involving bodily harm and damage caused in an Oslo apartment while under the influence of substances, stating his intention to seek treatment. The case has captured public attention, and prosecutors are expected to announce their decision regarding indictments in the months to come.
