The 34‑year‑old American actor, best known for his portrayal of Walt White Jr. in the landmark series Breaking Bad, died in Brownsville, Texas, the BBC reported. No cause has been released.

Mitte, an outspoken disability‑rights champion who lived with cerebral palsy, used his personal experience to give authenticity to his on‑screen character. In 2014 he earned a Screen Actors Guild Award for his work on the show.

Beyond acting, he acted as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s hospitals, and founded The Mitte Foundation to support philanthropic and community initiatives that challenge stereotypes and elevate representation for people with disabilities.

The 2008‑2013 AMC series, created by Vince Gilligan, earned 58 Primetime Emmy nominations and 16 wins, cementing its place as one of the modern era’s premier dramas.

Mitte’s early life in Louisiana led him to Los Angeles in 2005 to support his sister’s career. He was originally cast through a public‑service announcement for an anti‑meth campaign before auditioning for Breaking Bad, a role that he described as still an anti‑meth narrative because it culminates in ruin for all involved.

Other television credits include Hannah Montana, Switched at Birth and Westhampton, and his most recent feature Speaking to Strangers, released earlier this year.
