In brief

Fu Zai, the first police corgi in China, has captivated a vast audience with his endearing antics and unique challenges of police work.

Fu Zai, the trailblazing police corgi from China, has taken social media by storm, amassing a staggering 400,000 followers. This lovable dog, with his short legs and impressive sense of smell, began his career as a sniffer dog at the Weifeng Public Security Bureau in Shandong after being discovered by a trainer in the park. His antics have captured the hearts of many, especially as he embarks on patrols for snacks rather than criminals.Despite earning commendations for his performance, Fu Zai's insatiable appetite for food has proven troublesome for his handlers. Recently, he was caught on camera snatching a sausage from a child's hand during a patrol—a delightful moment to some and a training issue to his team. Officers are working on training him to resist the temptations of treats, yet many fans online are rallying to support him, even offering him free sausages for his next adventure. In addition, during a Lunar New Year event, some of Fu Zai’s toys and treats were taken away after he dozed off on duty and misused his dog bowl. Experts highlight that his behavior is quite typical for corgis, known for their short attention spans and playful nature. “They can get easily distracted by anything moving quickly,” explains dog trainer Leonardo Palacio, underscoring the charming challenges of having a corgi on the police force. As Fu Zai continues to charm audiences with his instincts and occasional mischief, his journey serves as a reminder of the joyful unpredictability that comes with training dogs, especially those from breeds as spirited as corgis.
