Three female journalists stepped forward with accusations that police officers in New Delhi physically and sexually harassed them while they were covering a protest over voter‑roll revisions.
Journalists stated that officers touched them inappropriately and detained them by dragging them by their hair.
Delhi Police said the complaints were received and have been referred to its crime branch for a fair and impartial inquiry.
The protest, which gathered thousands in Delhi and Mumbai, demands the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision that has been altering the electoral register.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi said women fear for their safety and urged the home ministry to answer for the police's conduct, while activist Aahna Singh described the police as resorting to brutality.
The vote‑roll revision, which the Election Commission says aimed to delete duplicate entries, has created dissent because many say it favors the ruling BJP, prompting pressure from the satirical Cockroach Janta Party.
The incident adds to growing scrutiny of the Commission, which had already faced calls for Kumar's resignation in late 2025 over internal disputes.
