After the historic win of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League final, French cities have witnessed chaos, culminating in two deaths and more than 500 arrests. According to the French interior ministry, a 17-year-old boy tragically lost his life due to a stabbing in Dax, and a 23-year-old man was killed in Paris when struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter. These events unfolded amid exuberant celebrations that included fireworks, flares, and significant property destruction.

PSG issued a statement condemning the violence, emphasizing that such actions are detrimental to the club's values and do not reflect the spirit of most supporters. President Emmanuel Macron denounced the violence as "unacceptable" and vowed that those responsible would face justice. The victory parade through Paris took place on Sunday, fortunately in a calmer atmosphere, although heightened police and military presence was evident.

Initially, approximately 192 injuries were reported amidst the disturbances, with police taking 559 individuals into custody, including 491 in Paris itself. The disturbances involved the burning of 264 vehicles and left several police officers and firefighters injured. A concerning incident involved an officer who was put into a coma due to a firework injury, further illustrating the dangers posed during the celebrations.

Despite the night of chaos, a victory parade saw PSG celebrated through the Champs-Élysées, as thousands of fans highlighted their victory with jubilation. Macron, who publicly celebrates PSG’s achievement via social media, welcomed the team to the Élysée Palace to honor their historic win.

Enhanced police measures were indicated with about 5,400 officers deployed across Paris, especially as reports of looting near PSG’s famed stadium arose. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau criticized the violence, urging the distinction between genuine fans and those committing acts of vandalism.

Outside Paris, incidents included a driver crashing into a group of PSG fans in Grenoble, causing injuries to four family members, two of whom sustained serious injuries. The driver, who cooperated with police, purportedly acted without intent.

As the nation processes the mixed emotions surrounding PSG's monumental win, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of celebrations while minimizing violence in the future.
