Former US President Joe Biden recently underwent skin cancer surgery, according to his spokeswoman. Biden had Mohs surgery, which is a treatment that involves cutting away skin until there are no signs of cancer remaining.

The 82-year-old had been observed with a wound on the right side of his head before the surgery. This is not Biden's first encounter with cancer; in 2023, he had a cancerous skin lesion removed from his chest during a routine health check-up. In May, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.

In a message shared on social media after his diagnosis, Biden expressed, Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. This statement underscores the deep personal connection the Biden family has with cancer, especially following the loss of their son Beau to brain cancer in 2015.

Biden has had multiple non-melanoma skin cancers removed in the past, but since leaving the White House in January, he has made limited public appearances. The Biden family remains staunch advocates for cancer research and treatment, reflecting their commitment to fighting this disease.
