In brief

A recent report on the Air India Flight 171 crash has directed attention to the actions of the pilots, following critical findings from the flight's voice and data recorder, which indicated that fuel was cut off to both engines shortly after takeoff.

On June 12, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was on a flight to London when it crashed just moments after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Tragically, out of the 242 individuals on board, only one survived. The crash resulted in a significant loss of life, with over 270 fatalities, marking it as the deadliest aviation disaster in India since 1996.Investigators from India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau have indicated that mechanical failure or design flaws have been ruled out as causes. The cockpit recordings capture one pilot questioning the other about the fuel cutoff, leading to significant concerns regarding potential human error. Both pilots, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder, collectively held over 13,400 flight hours of experience. The investigation continues as officials seek to clarify the circumstances that led to this devastating event.
