Russia launched a massive overnight attack on Ukraine's southern and central regions, authorities reported, while Kyiv retaliated by targeting Russian oil refineries. The assault resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to 28 others, including three children, in Zaporizhzhia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that Moscow deployed over 500 drones and 45 missiles, affecting 14 regions across the nation. Following the strikes, Russia’s defense ministry stated that all targeted strikes were successfully accomplished.
This attack comes as global efforts for peace persist, just days after Ukraine experienced one of the most significant aerial assaults of the conflict, which claimed at least 23 lives on Thursday. Dnipropetrovsk has already been under heavy siege, with local officials urging residents to seek shelter amidst ongoing attacks.
In response, Ukraine has successfully hit oil facilities in Krasnodar and Syzran, with Ukrainian military reports citing numerous explosions and fires at these strategic targets, which contribute an annual output of three million tons.
Amid the escalating violence, President Zelensky has called for renewed sanctions against Russia, citing their blatant disregard for diplomatic negotiations. He emphasized the need for action from the U.S. and European allies, as foreign ministers gather in Denmark to discuss new sanctions aimed at undermining Russia's resources for war. As of now, diplomatic endeavors to halt the violence appear increasingly uncertain.
