Moment Earthquake Shakes Hospital Operating Room in Japan

Security camera footage released today captures the exact moment a 6.8‑magnitude quake jolted Kumamoto General Hospital in Japan.

At the time of the tremor, four surgeries were underway. Footage from a camera inside an operating room, where an abdominal surgery was being performed, shows medical staff instinctively shielding the patient with their bodies while equipment swayed violently, and a nurse thrusting open a door to secure an evacuation route.

The hospital reports that all four operations were completed successfully despite the shaking.

After the earthquake on 28 July, the hospital had suspended outpatient services, but resumed normal operations on 5 August.
