HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (AP) — A significant winter storm caused a chaotic pileup on Monday morning, involving more than 100 vehicles, including over 30 semitrailer trucks, on Interstate 196 in Hudsonville, Michigan. The Michigan State Police reported numerous injuries, though thankfully, no fatalities have been recorded.

In response to the dangerous conditions, officials closed both directions of the interstate near Grand Rapids to facilitate the removal of wrecks. Many motorists who were stranded due to the accidents were transported to Hudsonville High School, where they could request assistance or arrange alternative transportation.

The National Weather Service has also warned of extreme cold and potential winter storms affecting several states across the Midwest and Northeast, signaling that the severe weather is far from over. As the inclement weather continues, authorities are managing cleanup efforts with expectations of the interstate remaining closed for several hours.
