The northernmost bridge that spans the Dnipro River in Kyiv was struck again by a Russian drone on Sunday morning, marking the second successive day of attacks on the critical crossing.

Reports from Kyiv’s mayor Vitali Klitschko indicate that the new strike damaged the bridge’s surface and a main heating pipe, leaving residents in the Desnyanskyi district without hot water for a time.

Earlier in the week, the same bridge was hit for the first time, damaging the roadway and overhead trolleybus wires, and the Pivdennyi Bridge to the south received several strikes that have damaged its cables.

As emergency crews moved to address the damage, German chancellor Friedrich Merz boarded a train into the city to deliver a message of support, tweeting that the war’s outcome mattered to German security and that the UKR should rely on German assistance.

Experts warn that repeated drone attacks could compromise the structural integrity of both bridges, potentially leading to closures that would disrupt the city’s connectivity.
