Jackie the California Bald Eagle Dies After Intense Veterinary Care

Jackie, a bald eagle who became an online star, died Monday after receiving weeks of veterinary treatment. The bird was being cared for at Ojai Raptor Center after an attack by other eagles caused underlying health issues.

Veterinary teams labored to treat anemia and weight loss, but her condition worsened in the days before her passing.

Jackie and her partner Shadow had been mates since 2018, and their nest drew hundreds of thousands of viewers to livestreams. Fans followed her life and prayed for her health.

The center said it worked closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to share updates and test results. They thanked supporters worldwide for their prayers and hopes.

Jackie’s remains were transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for proper handling.
