Israeli military forces carried out a strike on a police post operated by Hamas in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza. Seven people lost their lives, including senior officer Col Mohammed Marwan Salem.
A drone fired four missiles at the post, which was located close to a bustling market street. Witnesses report hearing the explosions before the building collapsed.
The Hamas‑run interior ministry denounced the attack as a massacre, calling it an intentional strike on civilians.
Israel’s defence ministry confirmed a strike in the area and said it was targeting terrorists. It linked the operation to a hit on a Hamas operative.
Throughout the war, the conflict has featured frequent ceasefire violations. Gaza authorities have reported more than 1,110 deaths caused by Israeli fire, while Israeli officials cited four military casualties from Palestinian attacks.
In related incidents, Israeli forces killed a man and injured others in Khan Younis, and a 10‑year‑old boy was killed by gunfire near Rafah. The Israeli military has yet to comment on that particular event.
The fighting began after Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, which resulted in more than 1,200 Israeli deaths and 251 hostages. Israel responded with a major offensive that has now led to over 73,230 Palestinian casualties, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
