Authorities in Providence, R.I. are intensifying their investigation into the gunman behind the tragic shooting at Brown University, which left two students dead and nine wounded. On Monday, officials released new surveillance footage showing a masked individual wearing a dark jacket just hours before the attack, providing the clearest glimpse yet of the suspected shooter.

The FBI has described the suspect as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with a stocky build, offering a $50,000 reward for any information leading to their identification. Police have asked the public for assistance, particularly urging anyone who might recognize the suspect to get in touch.

After a lock-down was briefly imposed at the university following the shooting, police had initially detained a person of interest but later released them, leading the investigation in a different direction. The developments have raised concerns within the university community regarding security measures after it was confirmed that there were few cameras in the area where the attack took place.

Among the victims were Ella Cook, a dedicated student and community member, and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a fresh face with dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon. The situation has been further complicated by ongoing exams at the university, as the students were gathered in an auditorium with the goal of preparing for their finals when the unthinkable happened.

In light of the incident, Brown University President Christina Paxson informed that conditions of the wounded are being continuously monitored, and local police have been requested to increase their presence at schools in the area to reassure students and families.

The community is coming together to mourn the lives lost and call for a discussion on enhancing campus safety to prevent such tragedies in the future.
