Taliban Releases American Detained for Two Months, British Couple Still Held

The release of Faye Hall marks a significant moment in US-Taliban relations following talks, but concerns remain for the British couple detained with her.

Faye Hall, an American citizen held captive by the Taliban for two months, has been released and is expected to return home soon. Detained in February along with British nationals Barbie and Peter Reynolds, the couple, who have dedicated their lives to training programs for women and girls in Afghanistan, remain imprisoned. Zalmay Khalilzad, a former US envoy to Afghanistan, confirmed Hall’s release via social media, expressing gratitude to Qatari officials for their mediation role. Although the US State Department has not commented on this development, it reflects ongoing negotiations between the US and the Taliban, particularly following recent high-level talks in Kabul. Hall’s release is the fourth for an American citizen since January, as the Taliban continues to release detainees, reportedly for humanitarian reasons. Meanwhile, the Reynolds, who have been in Afghanistan since the Taliban retook power, face grim conditions; their daughter has highlighted her father's deteriorating health in custody, urging the Taliban for their immediate release as the family seeks justice during a turbulent political landscape.
