NORTH CODORUS, Pa. (FlashPoint) — Law enforcement is investigating a fatal shooting incident where three officers were killed and two more were wounded in southern Pennsylvania. The violence erupted in rural York County as officers followed up on a domestic-related case that started on Tuesday. The shooter was killed during the confrontation.

In the wake of this tragic event, community members gathered, saluting and holding American flags as police cars formed a procession towards the coroner's office. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his deep sorrow at a news conference, calling it a tragic loss, while Attorney General Pamela Bondi labeled the violence against police as a societal scourge.

This incident marks one of the deadliest days for Pennsylvania law enforcement in this century. In 2009, three Pittsburgh officers were ambushed while responding to a domestic disturbance, making this situation especially poignant.

Condolences have flooded in from police departments throughout the region, with many citizens leaving flowers at the Northern York Regional Police Department HQ. The ongoing investigation will encompass multiple locations in York County, according to a statement from the state police.

The shooting occurred around 115 miles west of Philadelphia in North Codorus Township, not far from the Maryland border. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots from nearby homes.

The two injured officers are currently in critical but stable condition at York Hospital. Authorities have yet to release the names of the officers involved or any details about how the shooting transpired, citing the ongoing investigation.

As the community grapples with this loss, Governor Shapiro reiterated that the families of the fallen officers are grieving yet proud of their loved ones' service.
