The Beechcraft King Air 300 was reported down in Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur Province, while en route from Cebu Province to Cotabato City on Thursday. Philippine authorities confirmed the incident on Friday. According to U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, the aircraft was engaged in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations intended to support military collaboration between the U.S. and its Filipino allies. The identities of the deceased have yet to be disclosed pending family notifications. The Philippines has maintained a longstanding military partnership with the United States, being the oldest treaty ally in Asia. U.S. forces have long been stationed in the region, primarily to train Filipino troops in their combat against local insurgent groups. Notably, U.S. Special Forces played a crucial role in assisting the Philippine military’s fight against ISIS-affiliated militants in Marawi in 2017.
