German Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned that attackers will pay a price after a drone carrying explosives was discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport on 4 August.

Merz said the incident demonstrated that Germany faces a real threat and that it has become an increasingly attractive target.

Police defused the device before it detonated and security experts suspect a Russian connection, though Moscow has denied any involvement.

Merz pledged that the government would strengthen drone defense and empower security forces to retaliate against hostile actors.

He also reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to Ukraine, calling on the country to “stay the course” in its fight against Russia.
