\Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu was heckled during a visit to the town of Le Porge, where 183 homes were devastated by a fire that has left thousands displaced across Europe.
\About 200 residents gathered at the town hall, demanding answers and accusing the government of ignoring their plight. The organiser, Ludivine Daurignac, claimed residents were barred from meeting the PM by security forces.
\In response, Lecornu announced €12 million in aid, with €10 million earmarked for Gironde and €2 million for Landes, to enable rapid reconstruction permits and a recovery plan. He also urged local authorities to act swiftly on building permits.
\The European Union has dispatched emergency assistance, deploying fire‑fighting aircraft and staff from Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway and Sweden. Belgian officials report that the blaze has more than doubled in 24 hours but is contained through favorable winds and rain.
\Across Greece, 41 forest fires erupted, including twin blazes near Salamina that killed two people and forced hundreds to evacuate. Spain’s Aragón region confirmed a soldier’s death in the Peñas de Riglos fire, while Croatian police arrested suspects linked to multiple fires in Zadar.
