French DJ and electro‑house musician Kavinsky, real name Vincent Belorgey, has been found dead at his Paris home aged 50.
The star was best known for his 2010 track "Nightcall", the opening credits theme of the 2011 film Drive starring Ryan Gosling.
After performing at the Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony, *Nightcall* became the most‑shazamed song in a single day on the music‑identifying app.
French President Emmanuel Macron posted on Facebook that Kavinsky will forever be a source of French pride.
Culture Minister Catherine Pégard also trailed on X, stating that France had lost one of its most unique voices and that his music will transcend generations.
Paris prosecutors said the DJ was found dead at his home; authorities suspect a stroke after the artist had complained of headaches for several days.
He began his music journey in the early 2000s, opening for French electro pioneers Daft Punk, and later formed the alter‑ego, a red‑eyed zombie DJ known as Kavinsky.
Other projects included collaborations with Canadian singer The Weeknd on "OutRun" and a London Grammar cover of "Nightcall" in 2013.
The Paris 2024 closing ceremony saw Belgian singer Angèle perform a memorable version of "Nightcall" alongside Kavinsky and the French band Phoenix.
