Four Dead in Quebec Helicopter Crash Near Montreal

A private helicopter burst into flames and crashed near Sainte‑Brigide‑d’Iberville, about 50 kilometres (31 miles) from Montreal, killing four people, Quebec provincial police confirmed.

Emergency services were called around 14:30 local time (18:30 GMT) on Saturday and found the aircraft on fire, declaring its occupants dead on scene.

The victims have not yet been identified. Sgt Audrey‑Anne Bilodeau said the helicopter appeared to be a private aircraft.

Investigators from the Sûreté du Québec’s Major Crime Unit, assisted by technicians and investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, are leading the inquiry.

The wreckage was located near the Rang des Écossais road off Highway 10. Authorities received a distress call about an airborne emergency likely to involve a crash and fire.

Firefighters had the site under control after an hour, but investigators stayed until just before 22:00 local time.

Identification of the deceased may take several days, Bilodeau added.
