GLEN BURNIE, Md. (AP) — In a morning encounter on Wednesday, federal immigration agents opened fire on a moving vehicle during an enforcement and removal operation, resulting in two injuries. According to a spokesperson from the Anne Arundel County Police Department, both individuals wounded in the incident sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were promptly taken to a local hospital.

The police were alerted around 10:50 a.m. to the shooting involving federal agents. It was confirmed by local police that only Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were involved in the shooting. Reports indicate that the confrontation began when agents approached a white van; as they did so, the vehicle attempted to evade capture and allegedly aimed to run the agents over, prompting the agents to fire at it. The van eventually came to a stop in a nearby wooded area.

The identities of those injured have not been disclosed. Anne Arundel police stated that they will conduct investigations related to the shooting, while the FBI will look into the alleged assault on the federal agents. An internal investigation by ICE is also anticipated.
