Funerals were held for Omar al-Naasan (17) and Khalil Abu Alia (16) after they were shot dead when settlers and Israeli soldiers entered the Palestinian village of al‑Mughayyir, south of Nablus.
Both teens were killed this week amid a spate of attacks that the Israeli military describes as part of a daily pattern of violence in the occupied West Bank.
Mohammed Al‑Naasan, Omar’s father, told the BBC that the killing is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by all youth in the area: "We expect that when our sons walk in the street they are likely to return injured or killed," he said.
Israel’s army said it had fired on "instigators of a violent riot" and that the incident is currently under review.
The United Nations reports that more than 80 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers since the beginning of the year, underscoring the high stakes for residents of the region.
The deaths of Omar and Khalil add to the mounting human cost of ongoing clashes between settlers and Palestinian villagers.
