In brief

The ongoing investigation into sexual assault allegations has now enveloped the Fayed family, known for their ownership of the iconic Harrods department store in London.

Amy McIlquham, who joined Harrods in 1993, recounted a troubling experience in Gstaad, Switzerland, at the hands of Ali Fayed, one of the brothers. Now 52 years old, she shared that during a company trip in 1994, she was subjected to unwanted sexual advances, which she firmly identifies as molestation. At the time, McIlquham was a 21-year-old personal assistant to Mohamed al-Fayed, the eldest brother, who alongside his siblings, Salah and Ali, co-owned the prominent luxury store. She described an unsettling weekend where after arriving at the chalet, she found herself alone with Ali and a housekeeper, leading to a series of inappropriate interactions. Recalling the incident, she emphasizes the moment when Ali took her to the swimming pool, where he groped her while appearing to laugh. The abuse left a lasting impression, and she openly labels the encounter as harassment, stating, “I was molested, sexually molested, without a doubt.” This revelation comes as part of a broader investigation into allegations against the Fayed brothers, raising serious questions about their conduct during their tenure at Harrods, alongside the financial influence they wielded in the luxury retail sector.
