A Russian drone and missile strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv has killed at least one person and injured seven others, according to city officials.

Early on Saturday morning, explosions rocked residential buildings across several districts in Kyiv. Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported that among the injured was a 13-year-old child, with four individuals requiring hospitalization.

This attack follows a similar incident earlier in the week that resulted in the deaths of seven people. The bombardment comes at a time when Ukrainian negotiators were preparing for talks with US officials about an amended peace plan.

The head of Kyiv's military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, confirmed that multiple targets were struck on the outskirts of the city. Reports indicated a man’s body was discovered by rescuers in the Sviatoshynskyi district.

Two women were also wounded in Brovary, east of Kyiv. Klitschko highlighted that the recent attacks ignited fires in residential high-rise buildings, with crews working to control the blazes.

In light of these events, President Donald Trump's administration is advocating for acceptance of a draft peace plan, despite continuing hostilities. President Putin recently reiterated that troop withdrawal is a prerequisite for Russia ceasing its offensive, further complicating negotiations.

As both sides persist in their military actions—last week’s attacks resulted in casualties in both Kyiv and Russia's Rostov region—the road to peace remains tumultuous and fraught with tension.
