Dutch police have detained a suspected member of the ShinyHunters cyber‑crime collective after the group claimed to have breached FBI databases. The arrested 24‑year‑old was seized with devices containing evidence of two overseas murder plots. Authorities say the suspect was held before the alleged hack took place. U.S. and Dutch officials are collaborating on an investigation and have warned other hackers to surrender.

April 29, 2026 – Dutch police have detained a 24‑year‑old man from Amsterdam suspected of helping the ShinyHunters hack that exposed information on 38,000 FBI agents.

The cyber‑crime group released screenshots of stolen data on 21 September, claiming to have accessed names, badge numbers, home addresses and phone numbers of all FBI staff. It also threatened to publish details of two planned murders abroad.

Law enforcement officials say the suspect was arrested on 15 September, before the alleged breach. Devices seized during the arrest yielded a “large amount of information”, including murder instructions.

Dutch security chief Stan Duijf welcomed the arrest, noting the ShinyHunters network has targeted major firms worldwide. FBI Director Kash Patel thanked Dutch partners and urged any remaining members to surrender while the choice is still theirs.

ShinyHunters originally broke into profiles stored in Oracle cloud systems, accessing FBI databases such as FBIJOBS, FBI BEAST and FBI MedLink. The group, known for high‑impact breaches, including on Rockstar Games and the Canvas education platform, claims it hacked the FBI not for profit but to challenge official statements. The FBI’s public service announcement continues to warn that the group manipulates sensitive data for victims’ intimidation.

The investigation continues. Dutch authorities have not ruled out further arrests.
