In brief

A drone hit the roof of the Tavria supermarket in Mayaky, a town north of Odesa, as BBC CCTV footage went viral. The explosion injured three civilians and left the building damaged. President Volodymyr Zelensky charged Russia with the attack, citing it as another episode of aggression amid the war that now spans five years.

A drone struck the roof of the Tavria supermarket in the town of Mayaky, in Ukraine’s Odesa region, as footage captured by the BBC’s CCTV network was released on Sunday afternoon.

The impact, seen in the eight‑minute clip, showed the unmanned aircraft careening toward the building and detonating upon contact, sending shards of glass and debris into the surrounding courtyards.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack left three people hurt, adding that the attack was “a clear act of aggression by Russia.” He urged international support to defend civilian infrastructure.

Mayaky is located just north of Odesa city and has endured a steady stream of strikes since Russia launched its full‑scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, now in its fifth year of conflict.

The drone incident adds to a growing list of incidents where Russian forces have used aircraft to target commercial locations, raising concerns among locals and international observers about escalating violence against civilian targets.

Local authorities are investigating, and emergency services responded promptly, but damage to the building remains severe.
