A bomb exploded inside a crowded café in central Damascus on Thursday, killing six people and injuring 22, according to Syrian state media.
The interior ministry said the explosive was planted only 100 metres from the Palace of Justice, a major government building in the capital’s Hejaz district.
There has been no claim of responsibility yet, though authorities point to the Islamic State group as a potential suspect.
The attack comes after a series of violent incidents in the capital following the regime change in December 2024, deepening fears of a return to instability.
Damascus Governor Maher Marwan Idlibi vowed that those responsible would face punishment, calling the militants "malicious parties" who try to destabilise the country.
