Mattel Faces Lawsuit Over Pornographic Packaging Error on Wicked Dolls

A South Carolina mother is suing the toy giant after discovering a porn website address on a doll's packaging.

A South Carolina woman has initiated legal action against Mattel after the company inadvertently featured a pornographic website address on the packaging of its Wicked dolls. Holly Ricketson purchased the singing dolls, released in conjunction with the film adaptation of the acclaimed musical Wicked, for her daughter. Following the discovery of the explicit content, the mother expressed horror over the incident, which led to emotional distress for both her and her child.

Ricketson filed a civil lawsuit seeking $5 million in damages, arguing that Mattel's negligence rendered the dolls "unfit for their intended purpose." Despite the company's apology and recall of the dolls, Ricketson claims the toy maker has not offered refunds and accuses them of violating consumer protection laws. Mattel has yet to comment on the ongoing lawsuit, which stems from an "inexcusable error."

The film, featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, has gained commercial success since its U.S. release on November 22, grossing over $263 million nationwide.
