Car crash near Caen station

At least one person has been killed and 10 people injured after a car crashed into a group of people near a train station in northern France, police say.

Police arrested the driver and launched a major emergency response in Caen, the Normandy region, following the incident. Local officials reported the crash occurred near a bar where a fight had broken out before the vehicle struck the crowd.

Social media videos from the scene show crowds surrounding police cars and ambulances, with the area cordoned off. Four victims are being treated in a nearby hospital’s emergency ward and an additional six have been receiving care for less serious injuries.

Detectives from Caen’s Specialised Crime Division are leading the investigation. Residents are advised to avoid the vicinity of the Caen train station until authorities clear the scene.
