The latest tactics from Hong Kong authorities have sparked controversy as they offer between $25,000 and $125,000 for information leading to the arrest of 19 activists. These individuals are accused of breaching the national security law imposed by Beijing in 2020, which followed significant anti-government protests in 2019. This marks a continuation of Hong Kong's recent crackdown on dissent, with previous bounty offers made in July and December of 2023 targeting prominent figures like Nathan Law.

Law, who has since moved to the UK, indicated that the announcement of his bounty increased his personal risks. Among others targeted, activists Choi Ming-da and Fok Ka-chi were noted for their involvement in a social media channel. Following overwhelming criticism, the UK government reinforced its support for Hong Kong nationals, highlighting actions such as the removal of Hong Kong from the Extradition Act 2003 to sever ties with the territory's extradition processes.

With around 150,000 residents relocating to the UK through a special visa scheme since 2021, the UK authorities maintain their strong advocacy for human rights and rule of law in response to the ongoing situation surrounding Hong Kong activists and the overarching crackdown by the Chinese government.
