Magill Estate Restaurant won two stars, the only double‑star venue, while the other ten received single stars. The state government secretly arranged inspections, positioning Adelaide as a culinary destination and boosting tourism. The announcement follows Michelin’s earlier entry into New Zealand, showing the guide’s expansion into Oceania.
Australia has earned its first Michelin stars, awarding 11 restaurants in South Australia.
Magill Estate Restaurant in Adelaide is the only venue awarded two stars, while the remaining ten earned a single star.
The state government financed secret visits by Michelin inspectors, a move that led to the country’s culinary debut after years of unsuccessful attempts to join the global guide.
South Australia stood alone in this effort, with the Tourism Minister Emily Bourke arguing the expense creates a spotlight on the region and boosts international tourism.
Earlier this year Michelin added New Zealand to its list, paying NZ$6.3m over three years. South Australia now holds the same offer for Australia’s first Michelin‑starred dining.
