Caleb Flynn, a former Ohio music pastor who once appeared on the TV talent show American Idol, was found guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, after a trial that lasted eight days.
Flynn allegedly fired a rifle into Ashley’s head while she slept in their house on 16 February. Prosecutors argued he tried to blame the shooting on burglars and further demonstrated guilt through extensive digital evidence.
The jury quitted in under three hours, convicting Flynn on all counts, including aggravated murder and tampering with evidence. He is expected to receive life in prison without parole.
Court documents revealed a staggering 100,000 text exchanges between Flynn and his mistress, Alleigha Botner, many of which were read aloud. In a chilling text from August 2025, Flynn wrote, ‘I was up until 4am last night crying, literally thinking of ways to kill her and not go to jail,’ followed by another that said, ‘I just want her dead and gone.’
Prosecutor Paul Watkins highlighted the texts as evidence of Flynn’s hatred toward his wife, noting that Flynn had told police he was in his daughters’ bedroom when the gunshots rang. Shortly after, he claimed to have found her dead in the bedroom after noticing the garage door was ajar.
Flynn’s defence lawyer Patrick Mulligan argued there was no concrete evidence and that infidelity does not amount to murder, questioning the absence of the gun that should have been in the truck’s console.
The trial also featured an AI‑generated song allegedly written by Flynn for his affair. Botner testified in court, explaining the song’s lyrics line by line, while a trial video showing the jury’s reaction went viral.
Special Agent Joseph Wilhelm from Ohio’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations testified that Flynn had uninstalled several apps, including an AI music‑generating app, before his wife’s death—a move prosecutors linked to an alleged relationship with Botner.
