A civilian-chartered aircraft crashed near Cape Newenham, Alaska, killing all eight passengers and crew.
The flight departed from Anchorage International Airport bound for Cape Newenham, 450 mi west, per US Air Force reports.
The US Army Corps of Engineers said two of its employees were aboard, while the identities of other passengers remain unknown. They were described as “dedicated professionals carrying out a vital mission in a demanding environment.”
Lt Gen Robert Davis, Alaskan Command chief, said the loss is devastating for military families and the communities served, stressing priority support for families and gratitude for swift rescue efforts.
Rescuers confirmed no survivors, and an investigation is underway while victims will be named once next of kin are notified.
The Cape Newenham site is part of the Alaska Radar System; USACE is a civilian workforce; the NTSB Alaska region chief reported 2 pilots and 6 passengers aboard the aircraft.
