In brief
Iran's missile strike on a U.S. military base was met with restraint and calls for peace from President Trump, highlighting a desire to de-escalate the conflict.
Iran’s Armed Forces launched a series of missiles at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict with the United States. This strike comes as retaliation for recent American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities that occurred over the weekend, raising alarms over regional stability.According to the Pentagon, all but one of the 14 missiles fired were intercepted, and fortunately, there were no reported casualties. The single missile that managed to land did so in a nonthreatening area. Following the missile barrage, President Trump noted that Iran provided advance warning of the assault, which he credited for avoiding any loss of life. He expressed gratitude for this restraint and declared that it was “time for peace.”In a series of messages shared on social media, Trump described Iran’s missile attack as a "very weak response" and hinted at his hopes that Iran has exhausted its aggressive measures. He urged Iran to pursue a path toward “Peace and Harmony in the Region,” emphasizing that he would similarly encourage Israel to follow suit. This incident follows a decisive U.S. military operation that involved deploying a fleet of B-2 stealth bombers, which dropped massive bunker-buster bombs on Iran’s Fordo facility, a site of strategic importance buried within a mountain. Additionally, American submarines launched a total of 30 Tomahawk cruise missiles targeting key nuclear sites in Natanz and Isfahan. U.S. military officials reported that, while the strikes dealt significant damage, they did not obliterate the facilities entirely, suggesting a prolonged confrontation may be on the horizon.
