Russian emergency services have successfully located the wreckage of an Angara airlines An-24 aircraft that disappeared while en route to Tynda airport in the far-eastern Amur region. The plane was carrying a total of 49 individuals, including 43 passengers and six crew members, and went missing approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) from its destination.
The flight had commenced in Blagoveshchensk, a city near the border with China, and lost radar contact as it was landing. Amur regional governor Vasily Orlov confirmed that all necessary resources were being utilized for the search operation, noting that five children were among the passengers on board.
Soon after, Russia's emergencies ministry announced that a helicopter from the Russian civil aviation had sighted burning fuselage from the aircraft. According to reports from Amur's civil defense center, the wreckage was discovered on a hillside near Tynda. Emergency services were quickly deployed to reach the site and assist with rescue operations. The An-24 had been completing the final leg of its flight, which began in Khabarovsk, located in the far southeastern part of Russia.
